The Structured Workplace Learning Program

This program facilitates the provision of structured workplace learning opportunities to students in a real or simulated workplace;

Work Placement involves a student being placed with a host employer for a period of one week.

Work placement has benefits both for students and local businesses.

For local businesses: hosting students on work placement is a good way to promote your business, it creates opportunities for your staff to develop leadership skills, it broadens the skills base for industry and it helps to identify and retain local talent. In addition, hosting students on work placement previews potential new staff members for your business.

Sharing your knowledge, skills and experience with a young person can be very rewarding. Employers often report stories of how impressed they were with a particular student and of how helpful they proved to be.

Students participate in one week of work placement each year. In most cases, students are placed with a different employer each year.

All students participating in work placement are covered by insurance through the NSW Department of Education. A copy of the “Employers Guide to Workplace Learning” will be supplied to you prior to the start of work placement as this document provides details of the insurance cover.

Last year over 120 employers were able to provide work placement opportunities for students through our program.
