From 1994 to 1997, he was also Chairman of the Indicative Planning Council, which advised the Government on matters relating to the housing industry. Previously he worked in Treasury, the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and for an economic consulting firm in the United States. He was educated at the University of Adelaide and the University of Pennsylvania. Chris is an entertaining and informative speaker and makes economics understandable and relevant, injecting humour into every presentation. Topic: What’s Next? The job of an economist is certainly a challenging one. We were taught about the evils of inflation and unemployment, but recently we have had to become experts in the evils of deflation, and in the economic and market effects of terrorism and military conflict. And now, we have to struggle with the economic and market effects of an epidemic! So what’s next? Who knows? The past 12 months have taught us again that there is nothing so uncertain as the future. But you have to plan. What shape is the Australian economy in? Where are financial markets going? What about the dollar? Dr Caton will give his views. Sponsored by
