Capital Region BEC is proud to present Dr Chris Caton
Chris Caton is the Chief Economist and an Executive Vice President for BT Funds Management. He was Chief Economist at Bankers Trust from 1991 until July 1999. From 1994 to 1997, he was also Chairman of the Indicative Planning Council, which advised the Government on matters relating to the housing industry. Previously he worked in Treasury, the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and for an economic consulting firm in the United States. He was educated at the University of Adelaide and the University of Pennsylvania. Chris is an entertaining and informative speaker and makes economics understandable and relevant, injecting humour into every presentation. Topic “An Economic Outlook” Its been an interesting twelve months. We’ve experienced the first global economic recession in almost 25 years, but it’s over. We’ve lived through 11 September, which had severe economic effects, although less than seemed likely immediately after the event. The Australian economy has grown well, driven partly by a housing boom that is now fading. Interest rates have risen. The Budget has come and gone - and hardly anyone noticed. So where are we headed? Will the Australian economy continue to grow well? For how long will the labour market improve? How high will interest rates rise? Will we ever get to the next recession? Dr Caton will answer some of these questions and give his views about major financial markets.
