Wayne has been involved in raising funds for community organizations for over 20 years. In that time he has raised money for hospitals, universities, sporting and community organizations. Major achievements include a $1.73 million capital appeal for the Werribee Mercy Hospital, a $1.3 million sponsorship for the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Helicopter Service, the inaugural ANU Alumni Appeal and the establishment of a telemarketing unit for Australian Red Cross, ACT. Wayne is the Executive Officer with the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Helicopter Fund and is responsible for the administration of the Fund in addition to raising funds for the continued operation of this vital community Service. The public relations activities of the helicopter service are also part of his responsibility. “Snowy Hydro SouthCare Helicopter” (Canberra region’s own Angel of Mercy) Since its inception in October 1998 the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Helicopter Service has performed over 1000 life saving and rescue missions. Many people owe their lives and a better quality of living to the highly trained and dedicated members of the Snowy Hydro SouthCare team. History will record and we all remember the tragic events surrounding the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race during which a number of rescues were conducted testing the skills and endurance of many of the crews. The helicopter is also used to assist the Bushfire Service in firefighting and completed over 100 bombing passes in the recent Black Christmas fires in the ACT. It also assisted with the transfer of medical personnel to Nowra and evacuated residents from isolated towns during the fires on the South Coast. Wayne will give an exciting and detailed account of some of the missions which have shaped the proud reputation of this vital community service. Wayne will also show footage of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race to demonstrate the conditions that the crew had to operate under in the mission that was truly a baptism of fire for the Service. 6 August 2002 7.00am start Cost $25 Meredith 62976325 |
